Your Favorite Not-So-Spooky Run Is BACK WITH SOME NEW ADDITIONS AND CHANGES!
Join us at historic Elmwood Cemetery for the 8th Annual Graveyard 5K on Saturday, October 25th!
This one-of-a-kind run winds entirely through the beautiful grounds of Elmwood Cemetery—home to some of Kansas City’s most notable figures—and supports vital preservation and maintenance efforts.
Looking ahead to 2026, we’re excited to announce two big additions:
A 1-mile fun run for all ages and a spooky-fun evening race! Runners will wind through the cemetery at dusk, then celebrate with festive fall activities and a glowing after-party. Don’t worry—we’ll wrap things up before things get too eerie!

No, the 5k is open to both runners and walkers.
No, at least we hope not! This year’s run has been moved to the evening, but it will end before it gets dark. You will have an opportunity to look at the beautiful headstones and final resting places of some of Kansas City’s most famous residents.
Great question, this event is a fundraiser for the Elmwood Cemetery to assist with maintenance and keeping the cemetary looking as beautiful as it does.
Of course, we love seeing kids getting involved in activities like this. Registration for kids 12 and under will be $10 off the original price. There is also a 1-mile run for kids 12 and under if they would like to do that instead of the 5k.
Details for packet pickup will be announced soon.
No worries, you can pick everything up the day of the race at the cemetery! Just make sure you get there before race time.

FUN FACTS ABOUT THE ELMWOOD CEMETERY
- Keep an eye out for the headstone of Americus McKim, the owner of KC’s first professional baseball team, The Kansas City Unions. Without him, we wouldn’t be able to cheer on the Royals today!
- Kirkland Brooks Armour, the founding member of Armour and Company Meat Packing, is buried in the Armour Family plot in Elmwood. Armour Boulevard is named after Kirkland and his family.
- The Elmwood Cemetery is the second oldest cemetery in Kansas City.
- It’s also the final resting place of 766 soldiers who fought in the Civil War on both sides.
