    Have you ever wanted to learn how to BBQ but you’re not sure where to start? Or are you already good with grilling basics and want to learn more? This is the perfect opportunity! Join us for a hands-on demonstration with both pork ribs and pork tenderloin and learn the basics of grilling and smoking from local Pitmasters Megan Day and Ryan Fergola!

      • What exactly is this and who is it for?
        • Great question! This event is for anyone who is wanting to get a start in the BBQ world – whether it be at home or in a BBQ Competition. You’ll learn how to smoke ribs, grill pork tenderloin and even be judged in a competition against other teams.
        • Ribs – You will get a live demonstration on how to prepare ribs for smoking, so everything from trimming to seasoning and even how to smoke them properly. You will also learn when to remove your ribs from the smoker and wrap them!
        • Pork Tenderloin – This is the hands-on part of the event. Teams will watch a live demonstration from our pitmasters on how to prepare the best pork tenderloin then get to put those skills to test on their own. You’ll get to put your own taste on the pork by choosing your own seasonings. After everything is done cooking, your pork will be judged by KCBS certified judges!
        • This is for teams of 2-3 people.
      • Who will be leading this? Are they qualified to teach?
        • We’ve teamed up with the best – Pitmasters Megan Day and Richard Fergola!

      • Does this include eating any of the food that is cooked?
        • 100%! You will get to taste those delicious ribs after you learn how to make them. And, of course, you’ll get to eat the pork tenderloin you make and take any leftovers home with you!
      • What all is included?
        • Included with your entry is a 1-year membership to the KC BBQ Society ($40 value), a live demonstration of how to prepare and smoke pork ribs, a hands-on demonstration of how to prepare and grill pork tenderloin with competition, KC BBQ Series certified judges, drink specials from Tom’s Town, a chance to win prizes or raffles, and you get to eat ribs and pork tenderloin – and take any extras home with you!
      • Do I need to bring my own grill?
        • Nope, all equipment for this event will be provided!
      • What if I don’t own a smoker? Does this class apply to me?
        • If you don’t own a smoker, not a problem. Megan and Richard will go over how you can turn your grill into a smoker!
      • Where does this take place?
        • This event will be held at Tom’s Town in their parking lot.
      • Are there any prizes?
        • You bet there are – afterall, this is a competition in the end! Prizes will be awarded to the team with the most creative name and teams that prepare the best pork tenderloin – decided by KCBS certified judges.

          Megan Day – Burnt Finger BBQ

          Just a small-town girl living the barbecue dream. Named one of Southern Living’s “Most Influential Women in Southern Barbecue”, Megan Day is Pitmaster and Co-Owner of Kansas City’s premier BBQ competition and food company. Since its founding in 2008, Burnt Finger BBQ has racked up countless awards on the competition barbecue circuit, including 15 State Championships, 1st place chicken at the American Royal World Series of Barbecue, and 2nd place ribs at Memphis in May World Championships. Megan is a Chopped Grill Master’s Champion and is regularly seen promoting barbecue on local and national television, including several appearances on the TODAY Show, Food Network, and many local morning show segments.

          Richard “Fergie” Fergola – Fergolicious BBQ

          Richard’s journey into the world of BBQ began in the kitchen learning how to prepare family favorites with his Mom and Grandmother.  Today he still carries on the family secrets and has found a way to stay true to his roots. His love of Italian food opened the door and lead him to his current obsession with smoke and fire. 

           

          Richard’s passion, preparation, organization, determination and planning made him a successful wrestler and coach, and now he applies those same attributes and more into the competition cooking arena.  His commitment and desire to be the greatest at everything he does has helped make Fergolicious BBQ what it is today.
